AI for finance

Young people are turning to AI in large numbers to understand finance

AI for finance

Against a backdrop of inflation, economic uncertainty and retirement planning, the French are more eager than ever to manage their money better. A recent study by Nalo with OpinionWay reveals a profound change in behaviour, particularly among young people, driven by the rise of AI for finance.

More than one in two young people now use artificial intelligence to better understand financial concepts, confirming the growing role of AI for finance as a learning and decision-making tool.

Strong interest in saving… but less in investing

While 81% of French people are interested in saving, only 47% turn to investing. This gap is largely explained by a lack of confidence in their financial knowledge:

  • Only 36% believe they have good financial literacy
  • A similar proportion rate their level as low, or even non-existent

A clear preference for security

The French remain mostly cautious:

  • 80% favour low-risk investments
  • Only 18% accept riskier investments, despite the potential for higher returns

Paradoxically, it is the under-35s who show the most interest in these riskier investments, despite often having less knowledge.

Social media and AI: new learning habits

Today, financial information is largely consumed digitally:

  • 60% of French people use social media to keep informed
  • AI is becoming a key tool to:
    • Understand financial concepts (27%)
    • Compare products (23%)
    • Help with decision-making (21%)

Among young people, these uses are booming, confirming a real shift in habits.

Trust in online advice remains limited

Despite this digitalisation:

  • 67% of French people refuse to follow advice found online
  • Professionals remain the most trusted sources (69%)
  • Financial influencers struggle to convince, except among young people
